She had been inside the house dozens of times before and never thought there was anything unusual about it.
Then one afternoon, she glanced toward a mirror in the front room and saw a man standing at the bottom of the staircase.
She turned immediately. The stairs were empty.
What made the experience harder to dismiss was that someone else had already described seeing a pale male face in that same mirror months earlier. Later, another person in the house would report seeing what sounded like the same figure.
There were footsteps too, sometimes crossing the upstairs hallway or starting down the stairs when nobody was there. But the footsteps weren’t what stayed with her. It was the man in the mirror.
Because three people saw him—and nobody ever saw him standing on the stairs.
