Growing up in a crowded old family home, she was used to unexplained footsteps, doors opening on their own, and family members occasionally hearing their names called when no one had spoken. None of it frightened her as much as what appeared on her bedroom wall one night when she was six.
Beside the shadow of a dresser crowded with small religious statues stood the unmistakable outline of a woman. As she watched, the figure began reaching toward the tiny shadow figures and moving them one by one, even though nothing on the real dresser changed.
