She had spent much of her childhood staring at the enormous Victorian house a few blocks from home and wondering what it looked like inside.
Years later, she finally got the chance to find out when she took a job there.
During the day, she loved it. But closing shifts were different.
After the other employees left, she began hearing a man speaking somewhere in the empty house. Footsteps moved through hallways and staircases when no one else was there. Doors closed on their own.
At first, she blamed the age of the building and her own imagination. Then a coworker casually admitted she had heard the same man’s voice.
And she began realizing that everyone who worked there seemed to have their own way of dealing with the house after dark.
