Built in 1886 as a luxury resort, the property later served as schools for young women before taking a far darker turn under the ownership of Norman G. Baker. Though he had no medical training, Baker transformed the Crescent into a hospital and claimed to offer miraculous cures for cancer and other illnesses. His treatments eventually led to federal fraud charges, but not before countless patients passed through the building’s doors.
Today, the Crescent is known as one of America’s most haunted hotels. Guests and staff report apparitions, unexplained voices, shadow figures, and encounters with spirits believed to be tied to the property’s long and often tragic history.
